Featuring highlights from Cool Acres Ranch, the country home of Dr. Denton & Louise Cooley.
Denton Cooley was born is Houston, Texas. He attended Montrose Elementary and San Jacinto High School. Dr. Cooley was a giant in the medical profession and brought international focus to the Houston medical center. His legacy is one of true Texas style. He lived large.
In 1958, Dr. Cooley and his wife Louise purchased 406 acres along the Brazos River in Orchard, Texas, which they named Cool Acres. The location was close enough to Houston to allow frequent and fun filled escapes with family, friends and fried chicken. Cool Acres became the place that everyone in Dr. Cooley’s world would gather to enjoy Texas country living. Roller skating, hayrides and annual St. Luke’s family picnics are among the many nostalgic memories created ……
Loiuse Cooley was a Houston celebrity, known for style and flare. She was well acquainted with the very best antique and home furnishings shopkeepers. She created the embracing style of Cool Acres, a true Texas treasure.
Cool Acres has now been sold.

“Legend of Dr. Cooley” Cow
This custom-created, hand painted iconic cow was created in Dr. Cooley’s honor and was part of the memorable Cow Parade of Houston. This Houston themed fundraising event benefited Texas Children’s Hospital. The “Legend of Dr. Cooley” Cow had a winning bid of $25,000! The successful bidder then donated it to Dr. Denton Cooley where it has happily grazed at Cool Acres, his family ranch in Orchard, TX.
